Chinese PIckle Mustard and Spare Ribs soup (sop bakut)

I have been craving this soup for a while... So I decided to make it today.

It's super simple and easy...

Ingredients:
 1 pkg ofChinese Pickle mustard
2 slaps of spare ribs
Salt
Sugar
Pepper
a littble bit of fish sauce/salty soy sauce.

Here is what pickle mustard look like. You can get it at a Chinese grocery store or online.

 Direction:
1. Wash and rinse the pickle mustard until water is clear. (otherwise your soup will be very sour!)
2. Diced them into small pieces like this:

3. Prepare spare ribs.  I like the spare ribs with just a little bit of meat on the bone.

4. So I cut the spare ribs, and save the extra meat for other things.
5. Cut the spare ribs between the bones.

6. Boil a pot of water, and put the pork in.  Wait until it tender then put the pickle mustard in
7. Add a little bit of sugar, salt, pepper and fish sauce or salty soy sauce.  Sprinkle a little bit of fried garlic....

8. Ready to eat warm.... YUMMY!!!

Surprise

This came so unexpectedly!  My department chair, who happened to be my lab director and his co-director send this get well flower...

It certainly brighten my day!

Meals.... and MORE MEALS.....

I am so grateful to be a part of such a loving and caring church community.... Since my surgery last week, my friends have been bringing us meals... We are Chinese, but we do not go to the Chinese church in city.  Instead we go to a very American church (where we are the ONLY) Chinese so far in the congregation.  (Well, the church is in a mid-size rural town)...

Why??  A LONG story on how God lead us there and I will perhaps share that with you someday.

Needless to say, we LOVE our church and the community...

These are foods that our small group leader brought us (in a huge cooler) made by our small group members and it's 1/3 of what we received so far... (more meals from other friends, neighbors and music students).

We are so blessed indeed!

Sammy prayed when he was scared.

Sammy got in trouble last week… While he was playing in his friend’s house (mommy was recovering from the surgery).  The 2 boys decided to unroll a full roll of toilet paper, put them on the toilet, keep flushing and see the magical water fountain they made flooding the floor.

After the experiment ran for a while, my girlfriend heard drips down in the kitchen, came running and busted the two little boys.

Sammy and I had a long talk after he came home.  One of the questions was,” What did you do when tante (auntie) was angry at you?”

” I cry. I just sat like this…” (He folded his hands in praying position and put them between his thighs).
“Why?” I asked.
“Because I want to pray”
“Why do you want to pray?”
“Because I was scare. You told me to pray when I am scared.” “I want baby Jesus to save me!”

I tried to hold my laughter (as it still hurt when I laugh) and because I don't want him to think that it was not the right thing to do.  I told him that it was good that he prayed... But I also want to turn it into a teaching moment…. We went on to discuss how if you do naughty things you would have to face the consequences etc….. Even though Jesus loves you

Now, the fact that my super-duper-sweet-nice-super-patience girlfriend (who I think is one of the most patience mommy I know) was angry to the point that Sammy had to pray was an interesting fact in itself.   (You see the magnitude of what the sweet boy did!)

Oh how I love the faith of a little child!

I am also so proud of my little sweet Sammy's faith and so excited to see what God has in store for him!

Bye bye gallbladder

The gallbladder removal surgery was a success on Wed.... I went in around 9:30 am.  The anesthesiologist was very nice and comforting.  So they gave me some stuff to calm my nerve, then I was in the operating room perhaps for 5 minutes.

I was agitated because it was so cold and I was kind out "floating" you know from all the drugs... So she put a mask over my nose and told me to breathe in ... I think I took a couple of breath then I was out....

I woke up about 2 hours later... hearing voices but not seeing faces... The nurse started talking to me, I answered but I was not sure.. I could hardly keep my eyes open because my eyes was spinning.

Anyway, they moved me into the recovery room, I was cared for by an older male nurse who was very nice.  I asked to stay over night as I can barely walk so I do not want to go home.
My abdomen was painful! So they made me sit in the recovery chair where I dozed off in and out for the next 2 - 3 hours before they moved me into the room...

Found out that I have to share a room... That story is coming...

So I no longer have a gallbladder?  Will I miss it? We'll see! :)

Midterm and Gallbladder

Okay... My husband kept telling me that I really need to work on my scheduling skill and think about what I can and can not do....

Today, I have a midterm that I can not study because my mind is so occupied with the gallbladder laparoscopic surgery tomorrow.

The surgery should be very easy (I was told).... Well, last time C-section should be easy too it turned out to be a completely messy nightmare :-(  (I will tell you all about it later....)

My boy grows up so fast!

Yesterday my 3.5 yrs old boy wanted to dress by himself.

After a few minute he came out looking so "dandy"

Matching McQueen shirt, socks and sunglasses as well as undershirt! SO proud of him!

3. A music studio owner and teacher...

4. A children choir director

5. A blogger

Oh boy.... I guess it will be an interesting journey to blog about.

Nostril vs Nose

I took my oldest son to the doc because he twitched his nose a lot...

Got there...

Tthe nurse asked," so why are we seeing G this morning?" "Well, he said his right nose hurt:" I said... G quickly interrupted," Excuse me ma'am, it's my right nostril, not my nose! My mommy is from Indonesia, she does not speak English very well!"  Then G turned to me, " Mommy, come on, it's my nostril not NOSE"

You should have seen the nurse's FACE!  She does not know what to respond :-)

I actually wanted to laugh so hard because of her reaction... She eventually said," G, I think your mom is speaking English very well."
